What is the exchange?

A market run by the players. List any metal you hold at your own price, or buy what other captains are selling, any time and from anywhere. No docking needed. Everything is priced in money from your federation bank, sellers pay a 5% fee, and a listing stays up for 7 days.

No other captain interested? The Federation always buys a metal instantly at its Federation buy price (10% of the recommended price, shown in the table below), so you can always sell.

How do I find metals?

Say "Explore" in the Alexa skill once your ship is level 2. Now and then an explore turns up a rare metal: twenty kinds in five tiers, from common Iron to legendary Rhodium. The rarer the metal, the more it is worth.

Each star system holds a limited supply that refreshes over time, so a busy system can be picked clean. Try different stars. Say "Metals Menu" to see what you carry. Careful: metals are lost if your ship is scrapped.

What are they for?

Two things: sell them here for money, or use them. Each level of your shields and weapons (0 to 500, up to +200%) costs one specific metal, spent when you upgrade at one of six shield and weapon stations.
